From Baghdad to The Bay is a documentary that follows the journey of an Iraqi refugee and former translator for the US military. Wrongfully accused of being a double agent, tortured by the U.S. and ostracized from his family and country, Ghazwan Alsharif struggles to rebuild his life in the United States while coming out as an openly gay man.

ABOUT THE OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The mission of The Oakland International Film Festival is to promote independent films and the filmmakers that make them.

The Oakland International Film Festival is an annual showcase of independent films from around the world including films “Made in Oakland”. Typically held at various venues in the City of Oakland, The Oakland International Film Festival consists of film screenings, workshops/panels, special events and parties.

Additionally, throughout the year, The Oakland Film Society hosts various networking events/screenings to keep Oakland engaged with the independent film community and the stories they tell.
